Everybody Clap Your Hands
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great NYE, whether you were out picking up cowboys, hanging with the Bridge & Tunnel crowd in NYC, or locked in your own house. We were up at Troutville, ringing in the new year with some summer folk from the lake. It was nice and low-key, and we watched the ball drop in our own basement at midnight.
BTW - did anyone notice how Dick Clark messed up the countdown? It was very sad. And Rihanna's dancing at the party they showed right after that was even sadder. Even Chris thinks he can dance better than that!
Congratulations to Jodi & Lou Z., who got engaged over the weekend! I'm so happy for you guys! A nice way to ring in the new year...
Being up in Troutville made me nostalgic for summers past...so today I googled one of my old friends from up there. Her email address was the first thing that popped up, so I sent her an email, thinking she was probably going to think I was crazy contacting her after ten years have gone by. But she was super excited to hear from me, and she actually still spends two weeks over the summer up at the lake. So I'm not sure how we lost touch but I am glad that we are going to catch up. So I think that is going to be my New Year's resolution - to make sure that I keep in touch with my friends (in addition to "go to the gym" and "lose weight"). I have a tendency to let too much time go by, and before I know it, a decade is gone. BTW - just being able to say "a decade ago" makes me feel incredibly old. Ugh!
Today was Justin's first Gymboree class. He really enjoyed it! Not so much staying still to sing and clap, but more the crawling all over the place regardless of what activity we were supposed to be doing. But that's okay. I'm hoping he'll get more interested in the other babies as the class goes on. He doesn't get to spend much time with other babies, so this will be good socialization for him. For the parents, it was like an LHS reunion, 3 out of the 4 of us in the class went to the same high school within 3 years of each other. I recognized the faces, but I don't think I knew them back then.
Justin is doing a zillion new things every day. He has started repeating words - down, up, good girl, I did it, ball, and touchdown (for you football fans). It's very cute. He waves to everyone now, too, and dances and hums to music. He even did that at class today. He will be walking on his own before I know it!
I have only a few days left to get the rest of my Christmas decorations down before his birthday party this weekend...so much to do!
I wish you all a happy, healthy, and safe new year!

I'm glad you guys had a good New Years, I like to keep it quiet that night myself. I'd rather know everyone around me and enjoy saying happy New Year and hanging out with them, than standing like cattle with a million other people in the street or a bar...
Damn, I wish I was at your class I could probably have told you everyone's name, I have a sick gift for that kind of memory.
I'm glad Justin liked it.

Happy New Year J. It sounds like you had a good time. Has anyone ever caught a trout from this lake? Everytime you write about Toutville I picture myself fishing there. Do I have issues?

For a long time we didn't think there were actually any trout in the lake. But over the past few years, my brothers (and maybe my husband) have caught some rainbow trout. There are plenty of bass, though.

I've caught some sunnys but I've never seen a trout myself. And I've fished many a time... Happy New Year! Waiting for those first steps... you'll have to post video.
