It's Your Party!

"It's your party!" That's how I almost ruined the surprise to my Aunt Janet's surprise baby shower when I was 2 1/2 years old. My mom and Grandma were planning the last details the day before, and when my aunt walked in I yelled to her "It's your party!" Luckily, she didn't put two and two together.

But that's what I said to Justin all day today, as this afternoon we had his 1st birthday party! It was great - so many family and friends came to spend the day with us - it really means a lot to me. I know a 1-year old's birthday party isn't all that exciting to anyone other than his parents and grandparents, but luckily for some of the other guests, the Jets-Patriots game was on tv all afternoon. (Chris and his dad Charlie were thrilled that the Pats won, but I think they were the only Pats fans in the house). And I put together some great goodie-bags, with good old-fashioned candy, like dots (the sugar ones you have to eat off of the paper), nerds, pixie sticks, and laughy taffy.

Justin was really great all day, especially with so many people around. He went to everyone, and was happy all day. He even sat so nice with us when everyone sang Happy Birthday - there was no crying at all! He handled everything exceptionally well. He even got to eat some of his cake! I think he likes chocolate...

It really was a great day - everything went according to the schedule I had set in my head, and the timing for everything was perfect. Thanks to everyone for sharing the day with us and for all the great birthday gifts!

Wow...I really can't believe a whole year has gone by. I'm glad I have about 5,000 pictures to commemorate my son's first year of life. Gotta love digital cameras.
